SMEs IN AFRICA: Best Practice in New Era of Climate Governance
In this issue, we look back at the fantastic online seminar, ‘SMEs in Africa: Best Practices in the New Era of Climate Governance,’ presented by the New Champions Community of the World Economic Forum that was hosted on 25th of October. Risk Insights was privileged to be a part of the Institute of Risk Management South Africa Annual Conference – ESG: THE NAME OF THE GAME Masterclass. At the Master Class, a diverse group of thought leaders, professionals, and experts such as Matthew le Cordeur, Jess Schulschenk, Leburu Mahumapelo, Melanie Vermaak, Carolynn Chalmers, Christopher Palm, Sheralee Morland CRM Prof., Andrey Bogdanov, Institute of Risk Management South Africa – IRMSA, Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited, IRC came together to explore the ever-evolving sustainability landscape. We talked about lessons not learnt from the financial crisis, importance of good ESG reporting and ESG washing and how important it is for all companies to stay turned on the fast-changing ESG reporting environment.

We are thrilled to participate in an insightful webinar in collaboration with Henley Business School Africa, which explored the complexities of ESG strategic intergration in the South Africa context. Hosted by The Dunning Africa Centre, this webinar aimed to provide practical insights on navigating the ESG landscape, Challenges and opportunities specific to South Africa, unlocking the true value of ESG initiatives, and harnessing its true value. The event featured experts including: Rajneesh Narula OBE, Filipe Manuel Morais, PhD, Melani Prinsloo, Shamima Vawda,Abuobyda Shabat, Henriette Malherbe (PhD).
Namibia ESG & Sustainable Finance Forum
Risk Insights participated at the Namibia ESG and Sustainable Finance Forum 2023! This event brought together industry leaders, thought pioneers, and decision-makers from various sectors, all dedicated to shaping the future of ESG and sustainable finance. With luminaries like Presidential Economic James Mnyupe and top executives such as Adrian Mill, Saima Ashipala -Nimengobe, Cuma Dube, Jason Hailonga CA(NAM), Jason Kasuto, CDFA, Ruan Bestbier, Charles Buchanan, Eino Emvula, Cynthia Vulika Endjambi from renowned institutions. Discussions delved on legal frameworks, regulations, market trends, industry challenges, and investment opportunities in Namibia.

New IRC Member Irene Keino
Risk Insights welcomes Irene to its ESG GPS Independent ratification committee as Chair for Mauritius and a Member of the Kenyan IRC. Irene Keino has 20 years of spatial planning and SDG development, climate change, ESG and sustainability experience. She also has a master’s degree in business administration from the United States International University (USIU), boasts a bachelor’s Honours and Masters’s Degrees in Urban and Regional Planning and Geography and Sociology from the University of Nairobi and a Dip in Architectural Assessment & Heritage from Lund University. She currently is the CEO of Eco Plan Management an urban planning and sustainability consultancy firm.
After many years of passion in the field of sustainability and climate change, she established GreenCo ESG Consultants, an emerging ESG Advisory company in Kenya assisting Nairobi Securities Exchange and listed companies drive the ESG and Sustainability Agenda in the Kenyan economy and the sub-Saharan region.
